Now we wait for his discharge date. The 1st place LG Twins get relief from Sangsung.
Sang-young Lee’s streak of good pitching continues. He has pitched eight games in the Futures League this season and has won all eight. Unsurprisingly, he leads the Futures League in wins. Six of the eight games have been quality starts, and he’s been pitching very steadily.
On the 24th, Lee Sang-young started the Futures League game against the Lotte Giants in Sangdong, Gimhae, and pitched six innings of one-hit, one-walk, five-strikeout ball to lead the Giants to a 6-0 victory and earn his eighth win of the season.
He’s been pitching well since the beginning of the season, and the fact that he’s so close to being discharged from the military has raised expectations for his return to the LG.토토사이트
After getting out of the first inning with a triple play, Lee ran into trouble in the bottom of the second. After giving up a straight ball to Lee Jung-woo on the sixth, he walked Kang Tae-yul on the seventh to put runners on first and second. However, he got Bae Young-bin on a foul fly to the catcher to end the inning without a run.
The second inning was the only crisis. No Lotte batter reached scoring position after that. After getting back-to-back strikeouts in the third and fourth innings, Lee Sang-young hit a single to right-center off Bae Young-bin in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was her first hit of the day. Bae Young-bin tried to steal second, but Lee threw him out at the plate.
After scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead, Min Sung-woo grounded out to the pitcher, Kim Dong-hyuk walked, and Hwang Sung-bin flied out to left field to complete the triple play.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Song Seung-ki, Kim In-beom, and Cho Byung-hyun pitched one-hit shutout innings to preserve the 6-0 victory.
As Lee continues to pitch well in the Futures League, his chances of starting for LG after his discharge from the military on June 12 have increased. When asked about Lee, LG head coach Yeom Kyung-yeop said, “Lee can be a starter.” Currently, LG’s domestic starting lineup of Im Chan-gyu, Kim Yoon-sik, and Lee Ji-gang is weak in the fifth spot. Kang Hyo-jong opened the season as the fifth starter but didn’t perform well, and the second starter, Lee Ji-gang, hasn’t gone five innings in the last two games.
If Lee Sang-young is moved to the No. 5 spot, it would give the team three right-handed starters in Casey Kelly, Adam Plutko, and Chan-gyu Lim, and two left-handed starters in Kim Yun-sik. The 6-foot-2 left-hander made nine starts in his rookie season in 2021 and has been a consistent starter in the majors, so he shouldn’t have any trouble jumping right into the lineup after his discharge.
His discharge is now less than 20 days away. LG’s expectations are even higher.
