Modern pentathlon is an event in which one athlete wins a gold medal through fencing, swimming, horseback riding, and laser running (track and field + shooting). On the first day, a fencing round was held, and 18 people from the semifinals were selected to advance to the finals.
In the men’s division, 18 of the 29 players who would advance to the finals were selected on this day, and in the women’s division, there were only 19 participants, so no separate semifinals were held.
Jeong Jin-hwa (LH), who participated in the semifinal group A with Jeon Woong-tae, ranked 5th (1,127 points) and also succeeded in advancing to the finals.
Seo Chang-wan (Jeonnam Provincial Office) and Lee Ji-hoon (LH), who participated in Group B of the semifinals, also joined the finals by placing in 2nd and 3rd place.
The finals of the modern pentathlon competition will be held on the 24th, the day after the opening ceremony (23rd), for both men and women. A total of four medals are up for grabs in the men’s and women’s individual and team events.
In Korea, Woong-tae Jeon won a gold medal and Ji-hoon Lee won a silver medal at the Jakarta-Palembang Games five years ago.
