Hwang Jae-won (Daegu FC) has been named the LEMONA Young Player of the Month for May 2023 in the Hana OneQ K League 1. For his outstanding performances over the past month, he beat off stiff competition to take home the award and a cash prize and trophy. This is the second time he’s won the award in his career, after winning in May last year.
The Lemona Young Player of the Month Award is a new award established in 2021 by the Korea Professional Football Association (hereinafter referred to as the ‘KPA’), sponsored by Kyungnam Pharmaceuticals, to recognise the ‘Young Player’ who has made the biggest impact in the K League 1 each month. To be eligible for the award, a K League 1 player must be ▲ a Korean nationality, ▲ 23 years old or younger (born in 2000 or later), and ▲ three years or younger (debuted in the 2021 season or later) from the year they made their first official K League appearance.메이저사이트
Players who meet the above three conditions and have played more than half of their club’s total playing time in the month are eligible. The final winner will be determined by discussion and vote of the members of the Technical Study Group (TSG) of the Federation’s Technical Committee.
For the May Young Player Award, a total of five games from rounds 11-15 were evaluated. There were 13 eligible players, including Hwang Jae-won, Kim Shin-jin and Baek Jong-beom, Lee Han-beom and Lee Tae-seok (FC Seoul), and Kim Jung-hoon (Jeonbuk Hyundai). Hwang Jae-won received the most votes from TSG members and was honoured with the award.
Hwang Jae-won has played in all 17 matches this season, playing right defence. He scored his first offensive point of the season against Daejeon Hana Citizens in Round 14 in May, and followed it up with an assist against Incheon United in Round 15. It was his second award in just over a year, having been named Young Player of the Month last year for his one goal and two assists in six games in May.
The Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 May ‘Lemona Young Player of the Month’ award ceremony will be held at the 18th round match between Daegu and Suwon FC at DGB Daegu Bank Park on 10 May. Hwang will be presented with a trophy and cash prize at the ceremony.
