Brazil’s 14-player roster for the Women’s National Volleyball Team has changed. Ana Cristina and Gabriela Guimarães (Gabi) have been removed from the roster.
According to the official website of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League 2023 (VNL), Ana Cristina and Gabi have been removed from Brazil’s roster for Week 2. The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) had originally announced on Oct. 10 that the two players would be joining the tournament’s Week 2 roster, but were forced to withdraw due to unexpected injuries.
Outside hitter Ana Cristina, born in 2004, suffered a right knee injury during training on Nov. 13. She was the team’s top scorer in Week 1 of the VNL, totaling 78 points. She also ranked seventh in the entire tournament in scoring. The onslaught was cut short by an injury to Ana Cristina.먹튀검증
The Brazilian captain and world-class outside hitter had planned to join the team from Week 2 of the VNL, as she did last year. However, she felt discomfort in her left knee while playing a CEV Champions League 2023 match for Turkiye Bakıfbank and decided to rest it to avoid further injury.
Meanwhile, Brazil faced China (2-3 L), Netherlands (3-0 W), Dominican Republic (3-1 W) and Croatia (3-0 W) in Week 1 to finish with a 3-1 record (10 points) and fifth place in the tournament. In Week 2 at home, the team will face South Korea, Serbia, Germany, and the United States.
There are some familiar faces on the roster, despite the sudden departure of two players. Veteran middle blocker Taissa Menezes, a member of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, returns to the national team after a long absence, and all eyes will be on her return match.
