Bae Ji-hwan (24) of the Pittsburgh Pirates made use of his quick feet to create a hit.

Bae Ji-hwan, who entered his first plate with 2 out and 2nd base in the second inning, aimed for Washington starting pitcher Patrick Corbin’s 7-pitch slider at 80.6 miles per hour (129.7 km), but was caught by a floating ball by center fielder. In the 4th inning, with 2 outs, 1st and 3rd base, Corbin attempted a surprise bunt on 89.9 miles (144.7 km) four-seam, but he was dismissed with a pitcher’s ground ball. 

Bae Ji-hwan touched Carl Edward Jr.’s 89.1 mile (143.4 km) changeup in the 6th inning with 2nd out and 1st base, but the pitcher grounded it. In the 8th inning, with Pittsburgh ahead 4-3, Anthony Banda made a surprise bunt on 93.9 mile (151.1 km) four-seam on the second pitch, resulting in a hit this time. Austin Hedges singled out a push walk in Bae Ji-hwan’s safe bases loaded chance, and Brian Reynolds hit an RBI sacrifice fly after Ki Brian Hayes’ second baseman grounded, and Bae Ji-hwan stepped home and scored. 

Bae Ji-hwan, who was the runner-up in the last game after recording two hits in a row, but had no chance to step into the plate, added a hit that day and recorded a batting average of .253 (19 hits in 75 at-bats) for the season. 

Pittsburgh snapped a three-game winning streak with a 6-3 victory. Starting pitcher Rich Hill earned 3 wins of the season by playing an active role with 8 hits, 5 strikeouts and 3 runs (2 earned) in 6⅓ innings. Connor Joe (Season 4) and Miguel Anduha (Season 1) hit home runs.
